Community Service
Posted by Dave Hall
As a Rotary club we have two things that should concern us each and every day. The first, promoting high ethical standards in our various professions, as well as the rest of the business community. The second is serving our community and those in need, our community being both local and international.
In fact, our motto "Service Above Self" actually captures those two goals and conveys to all around us just what we, as Rotarians, stand for. In fact, while there is a ton of dialogue that goes on around this country year after year about just how much the nation as a whole has slipped in community involvement and concern by the individual for their communities, for over a century now we in Rotary have been living the motto, and truly putting service above ourselves. Every day, one of you will put service above self and give back to this community in which we live. Every day, there is a group of you working to make this a community of concern, a community of care. You're all involved in the community, know the needs of the community, and aren't afraid to get involved and address the needs that are there. Every day, someone in this club is giving back, making the community a place to be proud of, and the place in which we all want to live. At the end of the day, it is service to our community, both individually as well as in groups, that mark us as Rotarians.
But we can't live on past glory, or past service. We need to go out every day and continue to assess the needs of our community - and when we do, I'm betting that find new issues and new needs that require our involvement. As a club, and as individual Rotarians, we're here to lead, to assist, to serve our community as best we can!!!
Yours in Rotary,
Dave
