The Killeen Heights Rotary Club recently completed a DAP Grant Project that brought tangible improvements to two vital community resources: the Families in Crisis Domestic Violence Shelter and the Homeless Shelter, both located in downtown Killeen.
Rotarians rolled up their sleeves to support these shelters in meaningful ways. At the Domestic Violence Shelter, they removed an aging fence, making way for a new, secure fence installed by Fence USA. This upgrade ensures that residents—including children—can enjoy the backyard safely and in privacy, protected from the outside.
At the Homeless Shelter, Rotarians removed and later returned furniture while preparing the walls for a fresh coat of paint, which was applied by RLH Painting. The newly painted walls create a cleaner, more welcoming environment for the more than 800 individuals who stayed at the shelter over the past year.
This project exemplifies the long-term community impact of Rotary’s service. By improving safety and comfort at these shelters, the Killeen Heights Rotary Club has helped foster an environment where residents can feel secure, supported, and cared for—a difference that extends far beyond the physical improvements.
