In celebration of Service Texas Day, members of the Killeen Heights Rotary Club came together to create a welcoming new space for learning and connection in their community by installing a Free Mini Library and a community bench.

The project was designed to encourage literacy while also providing a comfortable place for neighbors to gather, read, and enjoy the outdoors. Rotarians worked together to install the library and bench, transforming the area into a small but meaningful hub for sharing books and building community.

Free Mini Libraries operate on a simple idea: “Take a book, share a book.” Community members are invited to borrow a book to enjoy and return later or leave a book for someone else to discover. By making books easily accessible, the project helps promote a love of reading for children and adults alike.

The addition of the bench invites residents to slow down, sit for a while, and enjoy a good book or conversation with a neighbor. It’s a small space designed to spark connection, learning, and community pride.

Service Texas Day highlights the power of volunteerism across the state, and the Killeen Heights Rotary Club demonstrated how a simple project can create a lasting impact. Through their efforts, they are helping foster literacy, encourage community interaction, and make their neighborhood an even more welcoming place.

As Rotarians often say, they are People of Action, and this project is another example of how local Rotary clubs continue to make a difference right where they live.
