Dick led the prayer and Kyle Hewitt, very new member led the pledge.
We had a business meeting to consider proposed changes in our bylaws. Jose made a motion
for approval and Bob seconded it. Clyde asked why the change was needed. Bob said the
bylaws had been written incorrectly to indicate that the executive team approved proposed
new members. Instead, their role is to vet membership proposals against Rotary standards The
entire club votes to approve or disapprove. The motion passed unanimously.
Manny, Jim, and possibly Lisa will represent our club at the conference of clubs meeting.
Dan Ady dialed into our meeting g to thank Rotarians for prayers and good wishes as he
recovers.
We had four visitors at the meeting, a promising sign.
Delsina announced that our website has been updated and now has a url. It will be used for
news, events, program announcements, etc., rather than a weekly newsletter.
Three new members were sworn in;
Terrell Smith who had been a Rotarian for 17 years and is transferring to us because he wants
to be involved in service projects like ours.his past includes being an underground welder and
an attorney.
Dr. Jason Wieman, whose passion and expertise is mental health, recently retired after 37
years in the army, stationed here several times since 1996.
Kyle Hewitt, an Edward Jones financial advisor, moved here recently and has already
volunteered to lead our pledge this morning and to serve as the Sargeant at Arms for Delsina’s
term.
We skipped Kudos and Camaraderie to provide our speaker with more time.
Our speaker, Colonel Lakicia Stokes, is our garrison commander; her change of command is
scheduled for June. She has served in the army for 29 years, enlisting as an automated
logistician, earning a bachelor’s and master’s degree, with her concussion being in
transportation. She briefed us on deployments (1500, seems like a small number); the building
and renovating of barracks and homes and hangars and food establishments (Panera Bread,
Sbarro, Panda Espress, and Lucky’s); adding a microgrid at West Fort Cavazos; hosting Fresh
Food for Families (initiative addressing food scarcity); and the success of Cavazos Connection
(HOP) on the Fort with ridership averaging 600 daily and its demise in July if federal funding
isn’t renewed.
Keith can help us know how to contact legislators that can influence that decision.
Col. Stokes responded to questions indicating that the current RIF is impacting only DPW and
that Brian Dosa is active in the Central Texas Water Alliance.
Lisa led us in the Four Way Test.
Delsina will let us know if we have a meeting on April 19, Good Friday.
