Law Day
District 5870 Ronnie Reynolds and District Governor Elect Tim Buckley visited the Rotary Club of Killeen Heights on May 1st. Long-time Rotarian, Ick Hook and his wife Bunny were presented a crystal award and named Honorary Rotarians. Hook has a quite a history with the Club and the District. In 1976-77 he served as a District Governor and was awarded the Service Above Self award in 2006-2007. He was also named to the District 5870 Hall of Fame in 1977-78 and received a Citation for Meritorious Service the same year. Hool has also received the Four Avenues of Service citation in 2005-2006.Â
Chief Justice of the Court of Appeals in Austin, Woody Jones was the guest speaker and asked, "By what method should Texas elect its judges?"Â A survey, according to Jones, was recently done and found that 80% of the people believe contributions a candidate receives influences their decision.Â
One myth, Jones explained, is that if you don't vote for everybody on the ballot, it doesn't count. Jones said that is not true and that if a name is short or long on a ballot also influence voters. He said, people chose a person with the shortest name because it's memorable and complicated long names are not selected.Â
