New Rules for Attendance
Thank you Stan Passman for pointing out the fact I omitted the most important fact that make-ups are only good for fourteen (14) days immediately prior to or after the missed meeting. In other words, you can do a make-up 2 weeks before a meeting date you know you are going to miss or you simply have 2 weeks after the missed meeting to get the make-up completed. This is going to be more exciting and intriguing that a John Grisham novel. Yes, that’s right, an article about attendance! OK perhaps we shouldn’t set the bar too high. The new Rotary International Manual of Procedure requires that members attend or make up at least 50 percent of regular club meetings in each half of the year.
Are you still awake? Good, it’s going to get better I promise. Now why do we even need an article encouraging members to attend our meetings? Is that not one of the reasons we joined this most auspicious gathering of fine folks anyway? Well, it’s kind of like all those warning labels on a ladder, it’s really just for a select few but doesn’t hurt to remind us all every now and then.
Most of you know how easy it is to make up a meeting. You can attend another club’s meeting, attend a board meeting, attend one of our social events, participate at one of our fundraisers (crawfish boil, food care drive), volunteer to help out with RYLA campers or the Early Act First Knight program, but the easiest and least painful of all is an e-club online meeting. If you need any assistance with any of the above please contact me or any other board member.
The best way to engage Rotary is to attend the actual meetings each Friday morning at 0700 hours. You get a chance to fellowship with some wonderful people, hear some interesting programs and there is nowhere else on planet earth with that much energy in a room that early in the morning!
If you made it this far I tip my hat to you and owe you some kind of compensation for enduring this rather dull topic so here goes, “How to you get a Texas A&M graduate off your front porch?”
