The last set of notes I shared with the club dealt with the focus we have starting at Rotary International and running through the clubs themselves. You'll remember it consisted of such great themes as fighting hunger, fighting disease, enhancing health and providing a solid education.

Every time I write those words I feel a sense of awe, a sense of pride that our group would undertake such soul-lifting programs to try and aid the world, small groups of people at a time. And how do we accomplish all of these lofty goals, how do we maintain the focus????

Through our support of the foundation!!!

Our foundation is one of a kind, even for service clubs, and the power it allows us to focus on key issues is unmatched in the world. It allows us, as groups of Rotarians, to develop our own programs and projects and gives us the resources to see these projects through to completion. We fight hunger through programs of food pantries and food distribution centers; we develop improved sanitation facilities for villages and reduce infant mortality by almost a third; we establish rural schools in areas wracked by war and violence, bringing a pool of calm in lives that are constantly threatened and impacted by war; and last but not least, we have teams around the globe bringing an end to polio and the threat it once represented for our children and the children of the world!! What an amazing way to approach helping our fellow man, and what an incredible group of people you are for undertaking the improvement of the whole world.

I am always proud to say "I'm a Rotarian" and to share that distinction with you!!!!

Yours in Rotary,

Dave
