Service Projects Update

I am excited to announce that our DAP Grant request was approved for the current Rotary year. With the assistance of the DAP Grant our local project will support the tireless efforts of Families In Crisis (FIC)/Friends in Crisis shelter and the Greater Killeen Free Clinic (GKFC).
FIC is a local agency that provides 24-hour emergency safe shelter for the homeless, battered women, victims of sexual assault, and families (parent & children) from Bell, Coryell, and Hamilton counties. The GKFC, in coordination with FIC, operates a medical clinic at FIC to provide screening of all clients during intake, medical services to clients, and appropriate referrals and support of sexual violence victims. GKFC also operates a clinic in downtown Killeen that supports FIC clients outside of operating hours and provides further medical care not available at the shelter clinic.
FIC and GKFC help improve the lives of the less fortunate by providing various Intervention and Crisis Services at the homeless shelter for its clients. Services include: crisis Intervention, 24-Hour emergency shelter and ancillary care, free evening meals, access to showers and laundry services, clothing and personal care items as needed, school supplies, and case management services to assist residents in obtaining housing, employment, skills training, financial assistance, and legal advocacy.
FIC has experienced a significant increase of personnel in need of shelter and medical attention in recent months—an amount that has exceeded the current support capabilities of FIC. The objective of our project is to improve services available to clients by replacing and adding new bunk beds in order to accommodate the increase of clients, adding commercial dryers to support the increase of linen and laundry, adding exterior benches for clients waiting for intake, and replacing/increasing medical equipment and supplies for the clinic in order to improve efficiency of medical support to the clients of FIC.
We look forward to the Club’s support in this project. Please let me know if you have any questions, ideas, or would like to contribute in any way to this effort.
