This week's speaker is our very own Ann Farris who will talk to us about This Texan in South Africa.

For decades, Ann has been heavily invested in the Central Texas community that she dearly loves. A lifelong educator, she served 32 years in the Killeen Independent School District (culminating as Deputy Superintendent of Schools), and is now a full professor at Texas A&M-Central Texas.

Ann has chaired the American Cancer Society Relay for Life four times, and the American Heart Association Heart Walk once. She has served as Campaign Chair for the Greater Fort Hood Area United Way Annual Fund Drive, and as Chair of the Killeen Arts Commission for 10 years. Ann served as president of our club in 2007-08, and she currently works with the Killeen Food Care Center where she and her husband, Gerald, service as Co-Executive Directors.

In Rotary year 2004-05, Ann serviced as the District 5870 RYLA program director, mentoring campers, counselors and fellow Rotarians as the district resurrected RYLA after years of neglect.

Ann's selfless service to her community and its citizens has been recognized by both Rotary and our neighbors. In Rotary year 2006-07, Ann was selected for the District 5870 Roll of Fame. She has been designated a Girl Scouts Woman of Distinction, the Texas Jaycees Woman of the Year, and (by Governor Rick Perry) was awarded the Texas Recognition of Service Award for her investment in her community and profession.
