Last week we talked about Club Service and the opportunities just being in a fellowship such as ours presents for service to our community and the wider world. The second avenue of service we have as members of Rotary is Vocational Service.

Vocational Service calls each of us to:
  • Aspire to the highest of ethical standards in our occupations and professions
  • Recognize and support the worthiness of all useful occupations, and
  • Contribute our "vocational" talents to the problems and needs of society
What awesome goals for each of us!!! We get an opportunity to represent the best of our chosen professions within our club, and then we get to take the very ideals we discuss in Rotary and practice them in our work places!!!

So how is all of this manifested and what can we do to strengthen this avenue????

Well-we can actually visit each other's businesses to get a better understanding of the profession and work. We can attend our community's career fairs and workshops where we can promote understanding of our own profession. That also includes the mentoring of young people and the nurturing of Rotary ideals as they begin to move into the wider world.

It's obvious that there are a host of things we can do to serve our community through our vocations - we're only limited by our own desires to become involved!!!

Yours in Rotary,

Dave
