Killeen Heights RYLA Campers Announced

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an intensive training program that provides young adults, ages 14-30, an opportunity to develop their skills and character while exposing them to Rotary's values of service, high ethical standards, and peace. In District 5870, RYLA consists of a week-long camp in Bastrop organized by Rotarians at the district level.
Participants are nominated by local Rotary clubs, which often cover all expenses. For these young adults, this recognition offers the opportunity to build self-confidence, gain exposure to a variety of issues and people, meet active community leaders, and learn valuable information and career skills.
This year, the RC of Killeen Heights is sponsoring two participants.

- Samantha Hurst, daughter of Shirley Hurst of Killeen, is a junior at Ellison High School. She is an honor roll student and is active with Junior ROTC, where she is currently the Command Sergeant Major. She is also on the female drill team, and received the JROTC Citizenship Award.
- Jalen Wade, son of Berwin Wade of Killeen, is a junior at Killeen High School. He is an International Baccalaureate diploma candidate, a member of the student council, and is on the Varsity Track & Field and Cross Country teams. He also plays basketball, and was a member of the Junior Varsity team this year. Jalen participated in the Junior National Youth Leadership Council and the Congressional Youth Leader Council.
