New Generations

Every three years, the Rotary International Council on Legislation meets to review proposals made by clubs and districts to Rotary policies and procedures. This term, the Council has made a change that I believe we should get excited about.
Recently, there were 4 Avenues of Service: Club Service, Vocation Service, Community Service and International Service. The Council has approved a FIFTH Avenue of Serivce: New Generations.
The New Generations Avenue of Service recognizes the positive change implemented by youth and young adults through leadership development activities, involvement in community and international service projects, and exchange programs that enrich and foster world peace and cultural understanding. You can feel proud of what our club is already doing in Rotaract, Interact, RYLA, and now, EarlyAct - FirstKnight. Being involved with present and future Group Study Exchange and Youth Exchange program are also part of this new service area.
At our club assembly two weeks ago, I stated that the club is requesting more time from you - specifically your time. This is an area of service that has a tangible and lasting impact - preparing our youth for a productive and rewarding future, professionally and socially. Please reflect on what YOU can do to be active in our Fifth Avenue of Service - whether it is being a host home for an exchange, assisting at a RLYA camp, or even just attending an EarlyAct - FirstKnight event. I can assure you that ANY support and participation will impact the success of thes programs. A great place to start is be going to the Rotary International website, www.rotary.org, to learn more about how you can get started.
