October is Rotary Vocational Service Month

This month, we will hear from some of our own members during a "Classification Talk" at our meetings. These short discussions will highlight what we may or may not know about what our friends and fellow members do each day and how they bring the Rotary values and Four-Way Test to their business.
 
October is Rotary Vocational Service Month. Vocational Services, one of the Five Avenues of Service, focuses on:
  • Adherence to and promotion of the highest ethical standards in all occupations, including the fair treatment of employers, employees, associates, competitors and the public.
  • Recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations
  • Contribution of vocational talents to solving problems of society and meeting the needs of the community.
As Rotarians, we have a responsibility of exemplifying the ideals of Rotary in the workplace and our dealings with others. Likewise, in Rotary, we act as a representative of our particular business or profession.

This is a great time to consider how you, as a Rotarian, can be an ambassador for your occupation. Additionally, we should consider how we can promote Rotary values within our "workspace." We each can participate in Rotary Vocational Service month by doing any of the following - or similar activity:

  • mentor a young person
  • promote ethical behavior in business
  • volunteer for services within your profession/business
  • start a vocational fellowship group
  • become involved with RYLA
  • introduce Rotary to business people you come into contact with
