Revisiting The 4-Way Test and Principles

It's time to reinvest some time in the 4-Way Test and our guiding principles. Created in 1932, the 4-Way Test is recited at each meeting. Most of us have this simple passage committed to memory.

However, I encourage all of us to take a close look at the words and their meaning. Keep in mind the spoken word is a powerful instrument that can both elevate and destroy. Key components are: Truth, Fair, Goodwill, Better Friendships and Beneficial. Our personal and professional lives depend upon this foundation. Our principles offer us purpose through high ethical standards. Our acquaintances are opportunities to Serve. Our occupation is an opportunity to Serve. Proof of this Test and principles is our application of this service in our personal, business and professional lives. Rotarians offer peace, goodwill and understanding through fellowship. These are not lofty goals to be achieved at just the international level. They need to be achieved within our club. Rotary is a grassroots organization and most of its successes are carried out at the local club level. Let's be proud of our association with Rotary, live the 4-Way Test and be guided by its basic principles.
