Thanksgiving

As president, you learn more about the club than you ever thought you would know. I have learned a great deal about generosity. Each week I witness gifts of money, time, and talents offered by our members and their families to worthy causes and to those less fortunate. These members do not do what they do for recognition or honor, they do it because it is the right thing to do - it is both a calling and a passion to them.

Each week I have, let's call them "informal advisors," that keep me in check by offering wisdom and guidance in matters important to leading the club. My ego does not prevent me from saying that their guidance and insight are absolute necessities. Just so you know, our club has more former district and international position holders than any other club I am familiar with - for this I am very thankful!

Finally, and I can go on, there are the members that work behind the scenes in our club that make sure our meetings run smoothly, the speakers are taken care of, our bills are paid, sick members are visited, and we have projects to keep our members active in our local community. These folks are the backbone of our club and the reason for our success as an organization.

I do something Rotary every day now. It would not be far from the truth to say that I touch something Rotary each hour of my waking day. You would think that I would be burned out by the week's end. But, I cannot tell you what it means to me to be at our meeting every Friday at 7 a.m. and be with folks that really care about our club and what we can do together for children, literacy, poverty, and health. You are truly an inspiration to me and so I say, Thank You for everything you do.
